My Journey in Fintech
I am currently a Senior Product Manager at PayPal, where I own the Funds In/Funds Out product portfolio across PayPal, Xoom, Venmo, and Braintree for the US, SEPA, and EMEA markets. That portfolio covers money moving in both directions — Wires, Real-Time Payments (RTP), ACH, Zelle, Buy Now Pay Later, and Credit Cards — each with its own settlement behaviour, regulatory constraints, and bank processor integrations.
Two threads define the work. The first is applied AI: I pioneered the use of Generative AI with in-house LLMs to build a PRD/BRD chatbot that reduced project timelines by 27%, and agentic pipelines are now part of how I do product work day to day. The second is infrastructure modernisation — migrating from Informatica MDM and SAP HANA to Google Cloud BigQuery and Pub/Sub, converting BAI statement processing from MT940 to BAI2 on bank processors, and enabling the Open Banking API architecture behind Direct Deposit and High Yield Savings. Working across seven cross-functional teams, this drove a 15% increase in feature adoption.
Before PayPal I spent three years at JPMorgan Chase (2017-2020) as Product Owner for credit cards, rewards, and lending — scrum teams carrying $900M+ in revenue. I led the legacy modernisation from Mainframe systems (TSYS, COBOL, DB2, IMS-DB) to Java microservices and REST APIs, and introduced CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins alongside the LeSS Agile framework, cutting time-to-market by 45%. Monthly Tableau dashboards increased data visibility 15% for stakeholders.
My move into financial services came through USAA (2015-2016), leading onsite-offshore delivery for Property, Auto, and Umbrella insurance products including the geographical expansion of Auto Insurance for deployed military members. Then Fidelity Investments (2016-2017), where I enhanced IRS reporting for 60M+ user accounts, covering wash sale and cost basis compliance. Those years taught me regulatory detail at scale — the requirements are unforgiving, and the systems carrying them are old.
It began at H-E-B Retail (2006-2015): nine years on Master Data Management, Order Management, and AR/AP accounting systems, bridging Mainframe (COBOL, DB2, IMS) and distributed (Java, Oracle) worlds. That is where I learned financial accounting and payments processing from the ledger up.
